ACCESS, delivered two practical learning sessions that helped 80 cassava farmers strengthen cultivation skills and apply regenerative methods suited to Bal’ad’s climate and farming conditions.
The activity combined technical instruction with farmer-led discussion and hands-on practice. Participants explored land preparation, planting and spacing, soil health, pest and disease management, harvesting, market opportunities and the value of farmer cooperation. The training-of-trainers approach also prepared participants to share the techniques with other producers in their communities.
Practical exercises translated the lessons into visible field solutions. Farmers constructed small drainage canals, swales, half-moon structures and a vertical garden, learning how these features can slow runoff, retain soil moisture and make better use of limited land and water. Composting, soil conservation and other regenerative practices were presented as affordable ways to restore productivity.
The sessions strengthened farmer confidence, encouraged collaboration and created a local base for wider replication of sustainable cassava production across Bal’ad District.
